Why every six months?
Why does a dentist need to check my teeth twice a year?
Dentists don't just check your teeth for tooth decay. They evaluate the health of your gums, tongue, throat and lips, examine your mouth for oral cancer, check your saliva flow and assess the movement of the lower jaw.
Plaque and tarter can build up in a very short time. If not removed, soft plaque can harden and cause infection leading to bleeding gums. Bleeding gums are often the first sign of gum disease which, if left untreated, commonly causes the loss of teeth.
Have your mouth professionally checked every six months to diagnose tooth decay and gum disease.
HAS IT BEEN OVER SIX MONTHS?
It is not worth the risk waiting longer than six months.
Early signs of decay and gum disease do NOT cause pain.
Those who attend regular dental check-ups will generally spend the least amount of time and money on dentistry over a lifetime compared with those who only attend when in pain or when they feel a tooth needs fixing.
